Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District Takes Proactive Measures in Response to COVID-19

The Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District is continuing to monitor information provided from the Department of Health and Lee County Emergency Management while also taking proactive steps to help prevent potential exposure of COVID-19. As it has always been in our planning and decision-making, the safety and health of the community is our top priority.

This is a fluid situation. We remain in close communication with federal, state and regional officials. Members of our staff convene virtually with the Lee County Emergency Operations Center and other Lee County staff regularly to align our efforts across jurisdictions.

The upcoming Board Meeting for the District, scheduled for March 31st, will likely be held virtually as a live broadcast. We are working on the logistics for this plan.

The collection and exchange of sharps containers will continue at Station 104 and Station 105. Persons seeking to exchange sharps containers can make contact with a firefighter by ringing the front doorbell or calling the station by phone.

The District continues to review processes, policies, and procedures to reflect all current recommendations and best practices. We will communicate updates via our website (www.lehighfd.com) and social media channels. Our District operates as @LehighAcresFD on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Nextdoor.

As we enter a new phase of COVID-19, it is important that EMS and Fire Personnel operate under the most up to date guidance and that the system operation remains fluid. The Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District is committed to continuing to provide quality fire suppression and advanced life support transport services to our community.

To ensure that our staff remains fit for duty employee screenings are conducted twice a day. Proactive steps to protect our community, firefighters, staff and volunteers from possible exposure to Coronavirus (COVID-19) include closing our stations to visitors, postponing public presentations or appearances, and limiting non-essential contact with the public. These measures will continue to be re-assessed and changes will be communicated.

In the absence of our regular school visits, we have launched a “Kid’s Corner” on our YouTube channel. The channel will feature short videos that are appropriate for kids of all ages with a focus on the Elementary-level demographic. Videos will include firefighters reading short stories, demonstrating some of their equipment, and highlights of life inside a fire station.
