Firefighter Paramedic Seeks MORE Ways to Make a Difference; Shaves Head for Cancer Charity

Firefighter Paramedic Maury Morejon is participating in Clips for Cancer, a fundraising event that benefits cancer patients at Golisano Children's Hospital. This is his fifth year participating in the event. 

Forty-three children receive a cancer diagnosis every day, making it the second leading cause of death for ages 1-14. Clips for Cancer is an annual event to raise awareness and local support in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month organized by Barbara’s Friends Golisano Children’s Hospital Cancer Fund and the Lee Health Foundation. During the Clips for Cancer events, members of the community (aka Shavees) volunteer to have their heads shaved by cancer survivors from Golisano Children’s Hospital. The Shavees raise money throughout August and September in honor of their shave.

Leading up to the event, the Lee Health Foundation will share stories of our local heroes' cancer journeys as well as why the "Shavees" are having their heads shaved in support of pediatric cancer awareness month and Barbara's Friends - Golisano Children's Hospital's Cancer Fund. Barbara’s Friends has a 27-year history of helping kids with cancer and life-threatening blood disorders, ensuring that no child is denied treatment due to an inability to pay. Every donation to Barbara’s Friends supports lifesaving services, programs, and equipment for the young patients at Golisano Children's Hospital.
